The New York State Seaway Trail is a 454-mile scenic route paralleling Lake Erie, the Niagara River, Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River. A well-marked, scenic alternative to interstate highways and toll roads, the Seaway Trail leads you to eye-opening treasures you might otherwise overlook. Traveling the Trail takes you to sophisticated cities, quaint villages, laid back fishing ports, dozens of family attractions, restaurants, accommodations and shops. Visit us soon and often. Use the Green & White Trailblazers along the Seaway Trail to guide you on your journey from West Springfield, PA on Lake Erie to Rooseveltown, NY on the St. Lawrence River. Each marker features footprints and a wave reminding you that the route parallels our freshwater shoreline.

This year Seaway Trail themed events and exhibits will be about Birding the Seaway Trail. In coordination with the events happening throughout the 2008 tourism season, we will be auctioning off hand-painted original birdhouses painted by several well known local artist on eBay®. The four big waters of the Seaway Trail: the St. Lawrence River, Lake Ontario, the Niagara River and Lake Erie - and all the fish-rich tributaries - the Salmon River, Black River, and Oak orchard Creek to name just three - make for world-class freshwater Sportfishing. To learn more click here.

The Seaway Trail Discovery Center is the place to learn all about the region and the “America’s Byways” program. The historic limestone building in Sackets Harbor, NY, houses interactive exhibits on the War of 1812, lighthouses, influential people, agriculture, architecture, natural history and recreation. Use your AAA & CAA “Show Your Card & Save” discount for admission.
The Seaway Trail is dotted with numerous lighthouses. Several are open to the public, including 3 that are available for overnight accommodations! Click on the icon to learn more.

Interpretive Panels, guides, and brochures on the French and Indian War are coming soon!
The War of 1812 is a significant theme throughout the Seaway Trail Region. Many battles were fought between 1812-1814. Watch for new Interpretive Panels coming soon.
Seaway Trail is extremely proud to have been selected as one of “America’s Byways” by the U.S. Department of Transportation. America’s Byways “possess outstanding qualities that exemplify the regional characteristics of our nation.” Seaway Trail was chosen for its unique landscape which has been sculpted by the forces of nature and for its historical significance.
Seaway Trail Visitor Information Kiosk featuring regional and local maps. Interpretive panels that “tell a story of that specific site” including lighthouses, historic, natural and recreational places to visit. These are located conveniently along the Trail; in communities, at parks and rest areas along your way.

The Seaway Trail has developed Lesson Plans to assist teachers with educating students on the French & Indian War, the War of 1812, as well as history, nature and cultural aspects of New York State. Click here for a complete listing of lesson plans.
