Work of Nationally Known Quilt Teacher Alice Wilhoit in Sackets Harbor March 15-16

The work of nationally known quilt teacher and appliqué designer Alice Wilhoit of McKinney, Texas, will be on display at the Feathers and Fowl: Birds of the Great Lakes Seaway Trail Quilt Show March 15-16 at the Seaway Trail Discovery Center in Sackets Harbor.

Wilhoit began teaching quilting in 21 years ago and instructs workshops throughout North America. Her first for-sale quilt pattern celebrating Texas facts and folklore is about to be retired after selling to people around the globe. Wilhoit is sending two of her designs to the Seaway Trail show. "Birds in Full View" is a set of 12 blocks each with a bird seen as if looking out a window. Morning Celebration is a 44-inch-square wall hanging of a bluebird among flowers with fine trapunto stitching.

Seaway Trail Foundation President and CEO Teresa Mitchell says, “We are honored to have the professionally designed quilts by Alice Wilhoit, and by QNNtv.com host Jodie Davis, to add to the ambiance of the Seaway Trail Quilt Show. Seeing more than a half dozen works by these skilled professionals will be a true treat for those who like to quilt.”

Ceiling-high wall waterfront murals hand-painted by artist David Miller throughout the t3-story Seaway Trail Discovery Center provide a unique environment for the bird-themed quilts. Show visitors will select top three entries to spilt $500 in cash prizes. The show program includes an easy-to-make bird appliqué quilt pattern designed by award-winning quilter Mary Knapp of Watertown, NY. Each entering quilter will receive a set of bird note cards designed by noted wildlife artist Robert McNamara. For rules and entry form go online to www.seawaytrail.com.

The show runs 10 am to 5 pm daily with daily 1 pm presentations by birder-photographer Eve Sweatman, quilting demonstrations, vendors and gift shop. The $5 show admission benefits the Seaway Trail Foundation which promotes tourism along the 518-mile Seaway Trail that is one of America’s Byways and a National Recreational Trail. The quilt show kicks off the 2008 Birds of the Great Lakes Seaway Trail Exhibit and Speakers Series of bird-watching and nature education programs at the Seaway Trail Discovery Center through autumn. # # #
