Byway E-Bay Birdhouse Bidding Features Work by River Artist

Sackets Harbor, NY – The next artist-designed bluebird nest box up for bids in the e-Bay auction series to benefit the Seaway Trail Foundation is a work by Mary Tobash. Tobash paints in a summer studio on Cedar Island near Fishers Landing, NY, on the St. Lawrence River. The bidding on the nest box will run May 11 through May 18.

Tobash has painted in a variety of media for 25 years and spends winters in Hegins, PA, in Pennsylvania Dutch Country. Her creative works in wood, tin and slate include children’s furniture, nursery & home murals, birdhouses, bride’s boxes, pie boxes, and welcome family signs. Tobash also has her own line of greeting cards.

The e-Bay auction series is part of the 2008 Birds of the Great Lakes Seaway Trail theme programming by the Seaway Trail Foundation. From now through November, speakers and tour guides will highlight the birding resources of the 518 miles of coastal habitat along the Great Lakes Seaway Trail byway that provides excellent resting, nesting and feeding grounds for migratory birds each spring. Presentations in May include live birds from the New York State Zoo at Thompson Park (May 8) and the National Wild Turkey Federation (May 29). The nest box auction will continue in June with a hand-painted work by Barbara D. Crone.

John Rogers, a nationally recognized authority on bluebird conservation and co-founder of the New York State Bluebird Society, donated the nest boxes. Proceeds from the e-sales will support educational programming by the Seaway Trail Foundation. The birdhouses can be seen at the Seaway Trail Discovery Center in Sackets Harbor and are online with artist bios at www.seawaytrail.com. # # #
