We've Planned a Great Vacation For You!

New York, Naturally

A Fly-Drive tour of two of America’s Byways in New York:
Seaway Trail Lakes to Locks

14 days – 13 nights ~ Gateway is New York City

Day 1: Arrive in New York City
Welcome to the Big Apple! Once the capital of the United States, now considered capital of the world, New York City is a wonderful place to visit. Check into your downtown hotel and pick up your travel documents before setting out to explore the city. 3 nights at Times Square Hotel Edison

Day 2 & 3: New York
Spend the next two days discovering the hundreds of world famous museums. New York has many zoos, parks, gardens and entertainment complexes. A trip to New York City is not complete without a visit to Radio City Music Hall, home to the high kicking Rockettes. The best view of the city can be seen from the Empire State Building. The Statue of Liberty is probably New York’s most popular symbol.

Day 4: Hudson Valley 155 mi/258 km
Today, depart New York and travel up the Hudson Valley. Enjoy the sweep of the riverscape, clouds bunched, the land flourishing, alive, and unspoiled; it is the land 19th century painters Thomas Cole, Charles Herbert Moore and Frederick Church loved. The River cities... Catskill, Hudson, Kingston, Poughkeepsie, Beacon, Newburgh, Ossining, Peekskill … touch the Hudson with street and parkland. America’s aristocracy built magnificent palaces up and down the Hudson River in the last 200 years, using the best architects, landscape artists and decorators. Their estates have been meticulously restored and are open to tours. Arrive in Albany for overnight. 1 night Albany at the Quality Inn Hotel

Day 5: Lakes to Locks Passage Scenic Byway 140 mi/233 km
Head north today along the Lakes to Locks, an All American Road. Stop in Waterford at the Canal Visitor Center, the junction of the Champlain and Erie Canals. Continue your drive north on US Route 4 through Mechanicville, Stillwater and Schuylerville, three of the 27 Lakes to Locks Passage “Waypoint Communities” that are eager to meet and greet visitors along the Byway. While driving along US Route 4, note that the Champlain Canal is running parallel to the roadway, often just a “stone’s throw” away. Most of the Canal locks have parks and interpretation about the Canal system. Just north the of the Village of Stillwater, watch for signs to the Saratoga National Historical Park and the Saratoga National Cemetery. As you continue north through Fort Edward, Hudson Falls, Fort Ann and Whitehall be sure to stop at the Visitors Centers and park facilities. Just north of Fort Ann, head east to the museums in Granville to learn about the natural history of the State Valley. In Whitehall the “Birthplace of the US Navy”, you will find great parks, restaurants and shops that open out on the canal. Lakes to Locks passage continues north to Ticonderoga. Throughout Essex County you will find Champlain Valley Heritage Network interpretive signs along the byway. Look to the west as you approach Ticonderoga, at the top of Mount Defiance the American Flag flies at the strategic military outlook for Lake Champlain, to the east are views of Fort Ticonderoga and the fort site at Mount Independence in Vermont. See Fort Ticonderoga and the historic Cable Ferry which operates across the lake during the summer. Continue on to Crown Point to the Penfield Museum, or follow the signs to the Crown Point State Historic Site, Crown Point State Park and the beautiful Chaplain Bridge that crosses Lake Champlain. Then, head west to Lake Placid for overnight. 1 night Lake Placid Ramada Inn.
